Game recap: Impressive 8-2 win against Logan Lake Minors
Your Okanagan Lakers got back into the win column Saturday night with an impressive 8-2 win over the TRU/Logan Lake Miners! The Lakers dominated every facet of the game – 8-2 in goals, 47-29shots and penalty minutes 26-10! As such we still hold a precarious 1-point lead over the rest of the BCIHL teams in the standings. It is anticipated that this will change as we have played 3 more games than the island teams at this point. However, we have no fear as we are confident that any change in the standings will be reversed when we see these island teams in our home rink! Be sure to come out and root for your team when we take on the University of Victoria Vikings Nov. 4 at 6:00 pm in rink 1 at the CNC arena.
On Saturday it was the Lakers who stormed out of the gate, scoring 3 goals in the 1st period. Johnny Carmichael had the first two goals, with assists on the first goal by Bettenson and Dutka and by Bettenson and Davidson on the second. Then it was Joe Davidson with one of two highlight type goals as he skated through the entire Miner’s team to score unassisted that was ultimately the winning goal! Coletyn Boyarski (McKinley, Gilbertson) and KT Walters (McKinley, Dutka) kept the ball rolling in the second period before Chase Caron tallied the first goal for the Miners. Any threat of a comeback by the Miner’s was quickly doused when KT Walters (Bettenson, Johnston), Ethan McKinley (Johnston, Walters) and Owen Chamberland (Bolin) scored the next 3 goals to round out the Lakers scoring onslaught! The last goal by Chamberland was perhaps the prettiest of the night, a real highlight as he wasn’t to be denied when he charged in on a breakaway for a short-handed goal!
Of note is that KT Walters 2 goals and 1 assist kept him tied for the league lead in goals and points and Carter Bettensen’s 3 assists also kept him tied for the league in points!
Next game is an away game on Nov. 3 as the Lakers return to SFU to see if they can duplicate their last game against them. Tune in as the game is live streamed on YouTube!
